More than 80 people were saved and taken to Maluku, an area of Kinshasa, after the capsizing of a boat along the Kasai river yesterday, not far from Kinshasa itself. The governor of the Bandundu province, Richard Ndambu, told Radio Okapi that many of the passengers were from his province. It would appear, according to the information collected from the governor, that 135 people were aboard and that five corpses were found so far. The search continues for 40 other passengers. Yesterday, officials in Bandundu suggested that as amny as 140 people died in the accident. [AB]
