The Holy See has committed to rebuild several churches that were destroyed during the January 12 earthquake. Such is what was announced by Monsignor Bernardito Ausa, who has the honor of serving as the apostolic nuncio in Haiti, after the visit of a delegation of high-ranking representatives of the Catholic Church, led by cardinal Juan Sandoval Iñiguez, the archbishop of Guadalajara (it’s in Mexico). According to the Haitian ‘Radio Metropole’, the archbishop was good enough to explain that the reconstruction efforts would begin in 2011, and that the government is expected to approve the reconstruction plan for Port au-Prince. Further to the south, in Jacmel, which was also heavily damaged by the quake, there has been flooding due to the characteristic rains of the season. A similar problem has been noted in Gonaives. [AB]
